R is a free software environment for statistical computing and graphics

R is an open source project that was started in 1995 by Ross Ihaka and Robert Gentleman at the University of Auckland, New Zealand. It is based on the S language, which was developed by John Chambers and others at Bell Labs in the 1970s. R provides a wide range of tools for data manipulation, calculation, modeling, testing, visualization, and reporting. It can handle both small and large datasets, as well as complex and simple problems. It also supports object-oriented, functional, and procedural programming paradigms.
